HistoryThe “Istituto Tecnico Commerciale Paolo Boselli” (Technical Commercial Institute “Paolo Boselli”) of Savona was established as a consequence of the Casati law to provide the town with an economics school. From 1862 to 1912 the first head office of this school was in Via Orefici. From 1866 the Technical Institute was joined to the “Regio” Nautical Institute (established in 1855). The ordinance dated 26 th July 1883, established that the Technical Institute – Commercial and Accountancy sections – had to be declared “Regio” and joined in a definite way to the Nautical School with the name of Regio Technical Nautical Institute “Leon Pancaldo”. From 1923 the school was named “Paolo Boselli”, a famous citizen of Savona, more than once Minister of the Republic (Public Education, Agricolture, Finances, Treasury) and prime Minister from May 1916 to October 1917. In 1937 the school moved to Via Don Bosco, in the building of the “Salesiani” Congregation bought by the Provincial Administration. The Institute became part of this Administration from the 1 st January 1927: when Savona was the capital of the province again, after having been declassed, in 1859, to being just a district of Genoa. During the night between 23 rd and 24 th October 1942, the complex of Via Don Bosco was hit by a bomb that destroyed all the laboratories situated on the last floor. The rebuilding started as soon as the Second World War had finished. A Public Surveyor Course was added to the Commercial Course in 1947, and it was an immediate success. The union lasted twenty-seven years, until 1973. In 1993 a new part of the school was inaugurated; this new wing is joined to the old one by a tunnel.
